Nepalese Students’ Association at the University of South Florida (NeSA@USF) donated NRs 1,50,917 (USD $1,301) to Hamro Sano Prayas – in support of the COVID-19 relief activities in Nepal like the free food campaign.
NeSA@USF, in coordination with the Nepalese Association of Florida (NAF), organized a virtual Deusi Bhailo event on November 7th, 2020 which was live-streamed on YouTube.
The event included cultural performances by USF students and, local residents of the Tampa Bay area and beyond. The event also featured an interview and musical performances by renowned Nepali guest artist Diwas Gurung. The raised funds were collected via the go fund me and PayPal account of NeSA@USF.
After months-long lockdown and economic slowdown created by COVID-19, Nepal has suffered severe economic hardship where the poor community like daily wage workers have been struggling to obtain proper food, supplies, and education.
While the health care crisis is still a major challenge in Nepal, the impacts of the economic crisis on the life of ordinary Nepali people are also tremendous and usually overlooked.
With the aim of supporting the poor communities in Nepal who struggle on a daily basis, NeSA@USF in coordination with NAF organized the Deusi program in a virtual setting. This was a first of its kind and was technically challenging, too.
However, the leadership, teamwork, technical expertise, coordination, and artistic skills of the NeSA@USF team were tested well during the process of organizing this event and provided a great learning experience for the new generation of leaders.
Over the years, NeSA@USF have actively organized fundraisers for non-profits in Nepal that are working to benefit the community. Our most recent past donations include donations of USD $792 to the National Innovation Center and USD $832 to Engage Nepal in 2020, USD $1200 to National Innovation Center in 2019, etc.
The donation funds were provided by generous Nepalese and non-Nepalese communities residing in Tampa Bay Area, Florida, and affiliated to USF and beyond.
NeSA@USF is a student organization at the University of South Florida founded and led by Nepalese students.
NeSA@USF promotes friendship, cultural exchange, and understanding among Nepalese and non-Nepalese students and residents affiliated to USF and Tampa Bay area through various social and cultural events.
Thanks to all the USF students, donors, well-wishers, supporters from the Tampa Bay area and around the globe!
