Sarlahi / Nepal is set to host its first-ever “Sitalchini Conference and Moringa Food Festival 2026” in Chandranagar Rural Municipality. The two-day national-level event will take place on Asar 6 and 7, 2083 (June/July 2026) at the scenic Nadhiman Tal.
The program is being organized by the rural municipality under the leadership of its Chairperson, Raj Kumar Mahato. It has been introduced as part of a broader “Green Economic Revolution Campaign,” aiming to simultaneously promote health, nutrition, environmental conservation, and local economic prosperity.
According to the organizers, the event seeks to establish moringa (drumstick tree) as a key pillar of Nepal’s sustainable development. Known for its high nutritional value, medicinal properties, low water requirements, and diverse economic uses, moringa is being promoted as a “superfood” capable of addressing long-term challenges such as malnutrition, anemia, lifestyle diseases, unemployment, and climate change.
The festival will feature a range of activities, including a National Moringa Conference with expert paper presentations, research discussions, and policy dialogues. A Moringa Food Festival will showcase a variety of dishes made from moringa, along with live cooking demonstrations and tasting sessions.
In addition, there will be agricultural and entrepreneurial exhibitions displaying moringa-based products such as powder, tea, oil, medicinal items, and organic goods. Training sessions and interactive workshops on plantation techniques, processing, branding, and market management will also be conducted.
The event will further include cultural programs, youth engagement initiatives, and environmental awareness campaigns. It is a key component of the “Chandranagar Moringa Campaign,” which aims to integrate agriculture, health, environment and economy into a unified model of local development.
Organizers have stated that long-term plans include expanding moringa cultivation around Nadhiman Tal to promote greenery, ecological balance, climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable income sources for local communities.
At a time when the world is seeking nature-based solutions, Nepal’s rich potential in moringa presents a significant opportunity. The conference aims to deliver a strong message that “local plants can drive global transformation.”
“This is not just an event, but a movement toward a healthy society, green economy, and sustainable future,” said Hement Raj Kaphale, who is actively involved in the Sitalchini campaign. He expressed confidence that Chandranagar will set an exemplary model in promoting a greener and healthier future through moringa.
