Banepa / In a remarkable step towards environmental conservation and climate action, Ullens Education Foundation, in collaboration with Banepa Municipality, successfully organized a Mega Tree Plantation Program on Friday, August 22, at the Ullens Nala Property and surrounding forest in Kashi Bhanjyang, Banepa Municipality Ward No. 3, just 7 km from Banepa bazar.

The program was graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries including the Minister for Foreign Affairs as the Chief Guest, along with the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development and the Minister of Forest and Environment. Senior government officers, representatives of organizations, environmentalists, Ullens School students, teachers, and community members also actively participated.

A symbolic and heartfelt moment took place when Hement Raj Kaphale, Planting Director of 8 Billion Trees Nepal, presented a Kalpavriksha tree to the Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arju Dewa Rana. The Minister personally planted the sacred tree, marking a gesture of hope, sustainability, and environmental harmony.

The highlight of the program was the massive plantation drive carried out by the students of Ullens School, who enthusiastically planted 10,000 trees in and around the Kashi Bhanjyang forest area. Their active participation reflected the spirit of youth-led climate action and the importance of instilling environmental values in the next generation.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Foreign Minister Arju Dewa Rana, recalled her long association with environmental causes and her professional experience working with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). She remarked:
“My years with IUCN taught me that conservation is not just about protecting forests it is about protecting people, livelihoods, and our shared future. Today’s plantation by our young students is a powerful reminder that the fight against climate change begins with each of us taking responsibility.”

She further expressed gratitude to the organizers and emphasized the importance of collective action in strengthening Nepal’s resilience to climate change.

The event was made possible through the dedication and leadership of Ullens School President Som Paneru whose hard work ensured the program’s grand success.

The Mega Tree Plantation Program is expected to make a lasting contribution to biodiversity restoration, soil conservation, and the global fight against climate change. By bringing together government leaders, organizations, local communities, and youth, the initiative has set a shining example of collective responsibility and a shared vision for a greener, healthier, and sustainable Nepal.
