Lumbini Nepal Mini Marathon to Be Held in Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand / A Lumbini Nepal Mini Marathon is set to take place in Thailand on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha, the Messenger of World Peace.
With the aim of promoting Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, a 10 km and 5 km race will be organized in the third week of Baisakh.
According to Kumar Bikram Regmi, First Secretary at the Embassy of Nepal in Thailand, the decision to hold this event annually was made after extensive discussions among various Nepali associations, institutions, and stakeholders working in Thailand, under the leadership of the Embassy.

As stated in the press release issued by the Embassy, a main organizing committee has been formed under the patronage of Nepal’s Ambassador to Thailand, Dhan Bahadur Oli, and coordinated by Deputy Chief of Mission Moti Bahadur Shrees. Nepali associations active in Thailand will serve as committee members.Entrepreneur Kumar Karki has been selected as the Coordinator of the Budget and Fund Management Sub-Committee. Similarly, Mun Gurung has been appointed Coordinator of the Management and Coordination Sub-Committee; Biplav Regmi as Coordinator of the Information Technology and Publicity Sub-Committee; and Prem Adhikari as Coordinator of the Technical and Venue Management Sub-Committee.
For coordination and promotion in Nepal, the responsibility has been given to Everest Marathon founder Bikram Pandey and T.S. Thakuri. Thakuri, who participated in the meeting from Nepal, is the Nepal representative of the global running body AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races). He is also the founder of the Nepalgunj Marathon—considered Nepal’s smoothest course—and the Nepal Running International Conference, which have been organized continuously for the past 11 years.

The meeting was attended by Nepalgunj Marathon founder T.S. Thakuri; Damodar Mishra, Country Manager of Nepal Airlines; representatives of the Non-Resident Nepali Association Thailand; People of Nepali Origin Association; Thai Nepal Association; Thai Nepal Friendship Association; UN representatives; Western Union; Asian Institute of Technology; professors and students from King Mongkut’s University; entrepreneurs involved in various professions and businesses in Thailand; as well as several Thai nationals.
