Nepalgunj, March 18 / A total of 100 women from Baijanath Rural Municipality in Banke district have received Freedom Kit Bags to support menstrual hygiene management.
The distribution was carried out by BAS Nepal with support from Freedom Kit Bags. The kits include reusable cloth sanitary pads and other essential materials used during menstruation.
Speaking at the event, the chief guest, Vice Chairperson of Baijanath Rural Municipality, Nirmala Rokaya, emphasized the importance of providing safe and healthy menstrual products to women. She stated that many women suffer from various health problems due to the use of unhygienic menstrual materials.
“Women are affected by different diseases, and the use of low-quality sanitary products during menstruation can further increase health risks. Therefore, it is important to use quality products,” she said.
Rokaya also mentioned that the municipality spends a significant amount every year on distributing disposable sanitary pads. She expressed her commitment to developing future plans that focus on investing in high-quality reusable cloth pads, which can be used for a longer period of time.
Ward Chairperson of Ward No. 1, Rup Bahadur Malla, also addressed the program, stating that the municipality would allocate budget for the production and distribution of reusable pads based on community demand.

The event also featured remarks from Malati Shah, Chairperson of Small Farmers Cooperative Chisapani, and former Chairperson Ekta Shah. The program was chaired by Shiva Kumar Barma. The welcome speech and program objectives were presented by Executive Director Namaskar Shah, while the event was hosted by General Secretary Kalpana Adhikari.
During the program, Freedom Kit Bags were distributed to women from various communities including Sutaia, Chyama, Gabhar, and Chisapani of Ward No. 1.
Program Manager Ramita Shah and Education Officer Mina Gharti Magar conducted training sessions on menstrual hygiene education.
Expressing her happiness after receiving the kit, Laxmi Budha from Chyama said that reusable pads are very useful for maintaining menstrual hygiene.
