Nepalgunj-A large-scale tree plantation and banana sapling planting program was successfully organized at the Jayandu Juvenile Rehabilitation Home in Duduwa Rural Municipality–6, Banke, with the objective of promoting environmental conservation and celebrating the month of Shrawan as a Green Month. The program was organized by the Environment Department of BAS Nepal, bringing together government officials, environmental advocates and community leaders to strengthen their shared commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.

The program was inaugurated by the Hon. Ratna Khatri Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development of Lumbini Province who planted a tree and emphasized that planting trees is an investment in the future of coming generations. He highlighted the urgent need to address climate change and encouraged every citizen to plant and care for at least one tree each year. According to him protecting nature is the foundation of sustainable development and a healthy society.

The Chairperson of the program stated that planting banana saplings and various tree species within the rehabilitation home would not only improve the environment but also help inspire children to develop a sense of responsibility, self-reliance and respect for nature. The Chairperson also appreciated BAS Nepal for its continuous efforts in environmental conservation and community awareness.

During the program a variety of environmentally important and multipurpose tree species including Parijat Arjun, Jackfruit, Moringa (Sitalchini), and Kalki were planted with the coordination and support of the District Forest Division Office, Banke. In addition more than 50 banana saplings, generously donated by Mr. Devendra Adhikari, were planted to promote greenery and future fruit production.

The successful management and coordination of tree saplings for the event was led by Mr. Hement Raj Kaphale, Planting Director of 8 Billion Trees Nepal in close collaboration with the District Forest Division Office. His efforts ensured the availability of quality saplings and strengthened cooperation between government agencies and community organizations for environmental restoration.
The event was attended by land donor and patron JKS Singh, Civil Society Coordinator Krishna Prasad Shrestha, Former Lions Governor Madhusudan Sharma, Former Secretary General of the Nepal Red Cross Society Min Bahadur Malla, Vice-Chairman of the Lumbini Province Sports Council Hansh Khanal, Chairman of Antaral Jaya Narayan Shah, BAS Nepal President Shiva Kumar Verma, Executive Director Namaskar Shah, Hemraj Bhatt, social worker Kamal Kaphale, D.B. Thapa of the Dailekhi Society, Rabindra Bohara, environmental campaigners, and many other distinguished guests and community members.
Concluding the program, BAS Nepal Executive Director Namaskar Shah reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continuing similar environmental initiatives in the future. He stated that protecting nature is a shared responsibility and that collective action is essential for building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Nepal.
The plantation campaign transformed the Jayandu Rehabilitation Home into a greener space while delivering a strong message of environmental stewardship, climate action, and hope for future generations.
